Meet a few of the Camp Coaches

Nick Rotola
Hitting/Outfield Coach

Nick Rotola is coming off a stellar season in 2018 with the Wichita Wingnuts. Before that, he was a 4 year letter-winner at Division 1 Oral Roberts University in Tulsa. This will be his 3rd year of coaching with American Baseball Camps in Wichita.

Logan Watkins
Hitting/Infield Coach

Logan Watkins was drafted out of Goddard HS by the Chicago Cubs. He worked his way up the system and made his major league debut in 2013. Logan is looking forward to working with infielders & hitters at camp. He has a ton of knowledge and we are lucky to have him.

Leo Vargas
Hitting/Infield Coach

Leo Vargas has been with the Wichita Wingnuts as their every-day shortstop for the past 3 seasons. He hails from Miami, Florida where he trained under legendary infield coordinators. He will be training the infielders at camp.

Ages 6-9 (9am-11am)

  • Intermediate fundamental training in Hitting, Infield, Outfield, Pitching, & Catching. (Those that don’t pitch or catch will get extra work in the first three areas)
  • Detailed Hitting Video Evaluations in Week 1, which are improved upon weeks 2, 3, & 4.
  • Hitting Emphasis – Balance, staying through the baseball, and proper swing efficiency & mechanics.
  • Infield Emphasis – Soft hands, efficient & quick feet, and proper routes to the baseball.
  • Outfield Emphasis – Read steps, efficient & quick routes, difficult catches.
  • Pitching Emphasis – Proper ways to throw a baseball, proper mechanics, accuracy.
  • Catching Emphasis – Receiving the baseball, blocking, and pop-times.

Ages 10-13 (1pm – 3pm)

  • Intermediate-Advanced fundamental training in Hitting, Infield, Outfield, Pitching, & Catching. (Those that don’t pitch or catch will get extra work in the first three areas)
  • Detailed Hitting & Pitching Video Evaluations in Week 1, which are improved upon weeks 2, 3, & 4.
  • Hitting Emphasis – Balance, generating power with legs, finding the slot, and proper swing efficiency & mechanics.
  • Infield Emphasis – Quick/Soft hands, proper routes to the baseball, and lots of repetition.
  • Outfield Emphasis – Read steps, efficient & quick routes, Speed training & difficult catches.
  • Pitching Emphasis – Learning the chess match with the hitter, finishing pitches & velocity training, repeatable mechanics.
  • Catching Emphasis – Receiving the baseball, blocking, and pop-times.

Ages 14-18 (4pm – 6pm)

  • Advanced fundamental training in Hitting, Infield, Outfield, Pitching, & Catching. (Those that don’t pitch or catch will get extra work in the first three areas)
  • Detailed Hitting & Pitching Video Evaluations in Week 1, which are improved upon weeks 2, 3, & 4.
  • Hitting Emphasis – Bat speed, launch angle, generating power with legs, and proper swing efficiency & mechanics.
  • Infield Emphasis – See if you can hang with Coach Vargas & Watkins Professional Infielders.
  • Outfield Emphasis – Division 1 Caliber Outfield work in read step, best route to the ball, reaction times, over the shoulder, do-or-die throws.
  • Pitching Emphasis – Learning the chess match with the hitter, finishing pitches & velocity training, repeatable mechanics.

September 10, 2018, Wichita, Kansas– American Baseball Camps is back in the Wichita, Kansas area. American Baseball Camps founder Nick Rotola (Outfielder with the Wichita Wingnuts) is accompanied by expert coaches in each major position: catching, infield, outfield, pitching, and hitting. Coaching is highlighted by two star Wingnuts infielders: Leo Vargas who was the starting shortstop for the last three seasons, and Logan Watkins a Goddard product who has extensive Pro baseball experience including parts of two seasons in the MLB playing for the Chicago Cubs.

Camps are tailored for serious little league, high school, and travel team players throughout the Wichita area. A one-time registration fee grants every player premium instruction in every facet of their game, whether it be: infield, outfield, pitching, catching, or hitting. This year’s program is an opportunity for players from Wichita, Maize, Goddard, Valley Center and Andover areas to get better and learn the game from great coaches.

FAQ
What if the weather is bad?
Our winter camp is indoors, so weather will not be a concern. If there is a snow or ice storm and we feel that it is unsafe to drive campers into camp we will adjust accordingly. At all times feel free to contact americanbaseballcamps@gmail.com.
What should my camper wear?
For our winter camp we will require campers to wear baseball pants and we'll provide the camp t-shirt. Athletic shoes or turfs, no cleats, we will be on a gym surface.
What baseball equipment should we bring?
All baseball equipment you may use in a typical game. Catchers make sure to bring your gear.
Who does the coaching?
Our Wichita camp features our best coaching of any camp around the country. Leading the camp will be founder of ABC & Wichita Wingnuts Outfielder Nick Rotola. He will be accompanied by starting Wingnuts Shortstop Leo Vargas, and former Chicago Cubs 2nd Baseman Logan Watkins. The three will be assisted by local players and coaches.
Can girls come?
Of course, anybody interested in baseball will get a lot better and have a ton of fun at this camp! Remember, we separate players based on age and general skill level for the best camp experience.
Do your coaches undergo background checks?
Yes, we do extensive background checks on each coach for them to be considered as an American Baseball Camps coach.
Can we pick up early?
Yes.
Do you perform video analysis on each camper?
Yes, every camper receives detailed video analysis. Players that hit & pitch will get video analysis from Pro Players on each.
