Step Back Drill

Step Back Drill

The Step Back Drill is a balance and timing exercise.

We start with feet shoulder width apart, facing our target.

The initial movement is a small step backwards with the front foot followed by a similar step with the back foot.

On the second step we turn the back foot sideways and ground it into the turf.

Our front leg now swings around, bringing the shoulders in line with the target.

Once we get back to the pitching leg lift position, we balance and throw.

The goal with this drill is to create some tempo with our lower body which will test our balance in motion. Much like we will experience when pitching out of the wind up.
